Big news! A donation of £50,000 from a Guernsey-based charitable trust set up by Jim Wilkinson and his late wife Peggy has taken us over our initial target of £150,000 to purchase a property next to Southampton Hospital for local families to use in times of need.

Over the last year, we have seen tremendous fundraising efforts from hundreds of local individuals, groups and businesses along with support from sponsors Investec Private Banking.

Fundraising for The Burrow began last November with the popular buy-a-brick campaign encouraging the public to buy virtual bricks in the form of £5 donations. All of these bricks have amounted to £141,695.45 with Mr Wilkinson’s extremely generous donation bringing the total to an incredible £191,695.45!

Jo and Ali have been looking at properties and hope that The Burrow will open its doors to the families of premature babies or critically ill children requiring off-island medical treatment in 2017.

Jo and Ali property hunting in Southampton!

We’re in our fourth year of managing a 10-year lease for a flat near Southampton Hospital, generously loaned to us by an amazingly supportive local family. However, we recognise the need for two properties as there is a demand of islanders needing a place to stay when their little one becomes unwell.

‘It’s impossible to name everyone who has been part of The Burrow’s fundraising but we would not have made it this far without every single one of you. The buy-a-brick campaign is a perfect example of how amazing our little community is. This is just the beginning for us as we’re working on the next important phase of The Burrow.’ – Jo Priaulx, co-founder of the PPBF.

‘We are extremely pleased that, with the support of the community, the buy-a-brick target has not only been exceeded but also achieved in a timeframe far beyond expectations. Investec is proud to have been able to support this campaign which will assist in keeping families together during difficult times.‘ – Steve Henry, Managing Director of Investec Private Banking

Fundraising doesn’t stop here! Once we’ve purchased The Burrow, we’ll begin preparing the property to make sure that it is a cosy, comfortable and well-equipped environment for all of the families who stay there. Find us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest.
