Jo swam the English Channel!

Jo Hardill swam the English Channel to raise vital funds for 2 charities close to her heart

UPDATE...

Congratulations to Jo Hardill for swimming the English Channel - raising £2,795. THANK YOU for donating an incredible £1,397.50 to the PPBF. This will make a great difference to families in our community. The funds will help us run a PPBF flat next to Southampton Hospital for one month and gift four families a ‘baby box’ on the Guernsey Neonatal Unit.

The other half of the funds have gone to Diabetes Guernsey. Thank you to all who donated and supported both charities.

Jo swam in a team of 3 as her type 1 diabetes testing and feeding schedule didn’t allow a solo swim. It didn’t slow her down - Jo & team  completed the Channel swim in 13 hours 55 minutes 50 seconds, amazing.

Jo swam the difficult distance swim with 2 swimmers she had never met before. The swim was broken up into 1 hour stretches to allow for her to test her blood and eat correctly. The conditions were a bit choppy to start and then beautiful with warm water. However, the last stretch was very hard due to tidal conditions, the sun going down and large cargo ships to avoid. The tide turned and the swimmers were swimming sideways rather than forwards for an hour. The team kept each other motivated and finally reached the French coast.

Absolutely amazing and thank you Jo for supporting so many families in our community.

On *Friday, 19th August 2022 Jake (who was born 11 weeks premature in 2010), his Dad Guy & their team will be cheering his Mum, Jo Hardill, on as she challenges herself to swim the cold English Channel. All to raise vital funds for 2 charities close to her heart. Incredibly, Jo has type 1 diabetes.

Jo aimed for a solo swim but her diabetes testing and feeding schedule with strict rules to adhere to doesn’t allow it. But that hasn’t stopped her - she’ll be swimming as a relay with 2 others.

Jo is swimming the English Channel (and dodging jellyfish) to raise vital funds for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation and Diabetes Guernsey.

She would love your support. Any sponsorship, if you can, will be gratefully appreciated. Please click on this link to find out more and how you can support Jo and make a donation:   https://giving.gg/donate/event/9171/Jo-Hardill-swims-the-English-Channel-Aug-202
